Anyway, none "invented" the atomic bomb: It took hundreds of scientists and engineers in at least 6 countries to come up with the idea, between the Curie's discovery of radioactivity, and Frederic Joliot's patents on nuclear energy (1939). Anyway, neither France or Britain had the resources to develop an operational bomb.
