(Looks like the Youtube gremlins got my first two replies) The hat Harry Truman is wearing is his Shriners Fez. The Shriners are a Masonic organization that was founded in New York city in 1872. It was founded by two Masons as a social organization using symbols from arabic/"near-east" culture. The name Ararat is the name of his Shrine and like many others are given arabic/"near-east" names (Isis, Cyprus, Oriental, Mecca, ect). You can do a google search for the Shriners website.

Freemasonry is a fraternity that when it was formed far before femenism and therefor did not include women as members (though some Lodges have). Although racists have been Masons (George Wallace and Strom Thurman) Masonry has no policy on race, all men are allowed. There have been many minority men who have been Masons including WEB DuBois, Count Basie, Booker T Washington, Duke Ellington, and King David Kalalaua (the last King of Hawaii). These are just a few of the many famous Masons.
