So, I beg of you, because the Lord loves you and would much rather give you eternal life than the punishment that you deserve, repent and believe in Jesus. "Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Joel 2:32). "If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9)

To us who don't realize that we regularly and thoughtlessly break God's laws (that's all of us!), yes, hearing how great of sinners we are IS repulsive! We're so content in disobeying God that the Bible, which is actually good, seems repulsive to us because it challenges our complacency. But the beautiful thing is that "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8) God calls all of us to turn from our evil ways and believe in Jesus, asking Him for forgiveness.

The thing is, we have ALL broken the laws that God has set out for us. We've ALL coveted things, we've all lusted, we've all lied. God's holy law doesn't suggest only that everyone who works on the Sabbath is deserving of death - it says that EVERYONE who has broken any bit of His law at all deserves death, because they have fallen short of His glory and His standards (Romans 3:23).

Perhaps I can shed a little bit of light. Romans 6:19 says that "The Law [all of the commands in the Old Testament] came in so that the transgression would increase." What this means is that God gave us the laws as the standard we're supposed to live up to, but also to show us all of the sins that we commit against Him all the time. If He hadn't said "Do not covet," we wouldn't know what coveting is and we wouldn't know when we had sinned (Romans 7:7)
