grumpyguts, anyone can claim to be Christian and say anything they want. Fundamentalists are the ones you have been listening to. However, if you want to get at reality, try Christian scholarship where there is a pretty consistent view.

As with any ancient spiritual book, there will be more than one view about what certain texts mean. That takes nothing away from the center pieces of the faith about which virtually all Christians are in agreement.

Again, deckard, you are among the most seriously afflicted atheists. Of course the Bible is the word of God. But beyond that you are constantly clueless. If you want to attack the Bible so badly, at least know what it is saying first. You embarrass yourself.

A typical problem that afflicts most atheists, they are clueless about how to interpret a spiritual book, and why wouldn't they. They've made a life of ignoring that very book. Now the best they can do is distort it.
1. Gen.1-3 is poetry
2. The snake is symbolic for evil
3. the name "adam" in hebrew means "mankind".
Most people with brains have understood Gen.1-3 just as I have stated.
